Building Your Products in sticky.io

There are two ways to go about building out your product catalog in sticky.io.

  • Creating Your Products
Great if you have a smaller product catalog - within a matter of minutes using our product builder you'll be on the next part of your setup journey to going live.

  • Importing Your Products
We have an out-of-box import/export tool that can be used in your sticky.io account. Great for importing hundreds or thousands of products along with all manner of other imports such as your old customer or blacklist records.

Below is a quick video that will guide you through building products in sticky.io. Similarly, below is a glossary of everything discussed.

Creating Your Products

To begin, let's navigate over to Products > Products.

Following, Actions > Add.

A pop-up window will appear prompting you to create either an individual Product. Or a Product Bundle. To create the latter, you need the former. For now, let's cover creating an individual Product.

  • ID - Each product you create, or import, will be assigned a unique Product ID. This ID is what you will reference when sending API calls to sticky.io.

  • Name - The name of your product or service being sold. This is also used in your email notifications, order management, and reporting and analytics. Should be unique to this listing.

  • SKU - Or "Stock Keeping Unit". Useful for physical goods being passed to fulfillment so you know what needs to be fulfilled and sent to customers.

  • Vertical - The industry closest associated to this product. It's an internal metric used in our reporting and analytics. Not required and if you're just selling under one vertical, it's a moot point.

  • Price - The price of the product irrespective of other inclusions such as taxes, shipping, or trials.

  • Cost of Goods - Helps you to calculate P&L "Profit & Loss" margins in sticky.io. Not a requirement and can be revisited at a later date.

  • Restocking Fee - The dollar amount withheld when a product is returned to the warehouse.

  • Max Qty. - The maximum quantity that this product can be purchased, per transaction.

  • Description - Information about how the product is used, applied, or consumed. This is a token that can be added to your transactional emails sent from sticky.io.

Rounding out product creation are your Parameters, Delivery Options, and Variants/Groups.

  • Parameters

    • Taxable: If the item is applicable to tax, enable this field.

    • Single Purchase Limit: Restricts the product to only be purchasable one time by a customer.

    • Collections: If a transaction fails, add the customer's information to a "Collections" list found under Insights > Collections.

    • Custom Notifications: Enabling this will allow you to specify what emails this specific product will trigger. e.g. Order or Shipping Confirmations.

Note: It's encouraged to not configure Custom Notifications at the product level. In the grand scheme of your transition and launch on sticky.io, this is a low-hanging item.

When you get to the point of adding your email provider you can mass append emails to all products versus doing it individually.

  • Delivery

    • Shippable: Passes any purchases with this product to your fulfillment provider.

    • Digital Download: Similar to the Product Description, add a URL that can be appended to your transactional emails sent to customers.

    • Signature Confirmation: Passes a notice to your fulfillment provider that this product requires the customer's signature to receive the package.

    • Delivery Confirmation: It notifies your fulfillment department to include delivery confirmation at the time of shipping of the order.

  • One-Time Paired Product

When the main product is purchased, add a product that the customer will only receive one-time for free on the first purchase. e.g. Thank you Card, Similar Product Sample.

Note: It's encouraged to think of different ways to use the One Time Paired Product feature. You immediately build rapport with the customer. Giving them a product sample will cross-pollinate other offerings from your store and reinforce that you offer a variety of goods. A Thank You card makes the customer feel valued and more likely to return.

And that's how you create products. If you aren't keen to import, we can end here and segue into building your Billing Models. Step 4 - Building Your Billing Models

Importing Your Products

Importing your products to sticky.io can be done in just a few clicks. This is a great alternative to creating them individually, especially if you have hundreds or thousands.

To begin, navigate to Insights > Import/Export Data.

As the feature title implies, this is used for both Importing & Exporting Data. Let's just discuss importing products for now and revisit this feature later. Once the page loads, navigate to Import Queue > Actions > Queue Import.

An additional overlay will appear asking you to specify what type of import you'd like to do. We're looking for Type > Products.

Note: Product Imports are limited to 500 per. Should your product count exceed this, you will need to batch-import your products.

For a list of what each header value should contain and if it's optional/required, please refer to our Import Products Article.

After you've uploaded your file, simply click Import. Imports are generally instant but can take a few minutes depending on the size of the file.

That's importing products! Let's segue into building out your Billing Models. Step 4 - Building Your Billing Models.
