Sticky Checkout for Shopify - Setting Up Your VIP Membership

In this article, we'll cover the process for getting your VIP Membership up and off the ground with Sticky Checkout.

This includes how to setup the product, trial, recurring and user experience as they subscribe.

NOTE: VIP Membership benefits, including but not limited to, unique store discounts, different shipping rates or other benefits are handled separately from Sticky Checkout and is not something we will be discussing in this article.

Lastly, before we can begin, you must already be fully integrated with Sticky Checkout. This includes having your domain nameservers updated, configured with Cloudflare, Shopify App created, embed code placed in your store theme and funnels created in Sticky Checkout.

If you've not gotten this far into the implementation process, please refer to the Sticky Checkout for Shopify Onboarding Guide.

Without further ado, let's begin!

Creating Your VIP Membership Product

As we've discussed in earlier articles, Shopify is your source of truth for products. Meaning, any new products or updates to existing products should take place in Shopify.

Then, next time you open Sticky Checkout we'll identify and sync them automatically for you.

Let's create your VIP Membership product in Shopify.

From Shopify > Products > Add Product.

The name of the product will be customer-facing so make it enticing. E.g Exclusive Sticky Buyers Club. Next, the Price will be the full amount that is expected to be charged monthly. We'll override this later in the guide for the initial trial enrollment.

Unlike other products, we will not be using variants since this product can only be sold on a monthly basis (beyond the initial trial period we're configuring later).

NOTE: Not relevant to this article - if you have products with intentions to sell them with One Time Purchase or Monthly (as an example) we would create variants on that product in Shopify. Variant Name > Billing Plans > Options > One Time Purchase > Monthly.

Then we would map these corresponding options in Sticky Checkout > Products.

Lastly, make sure "This is a physical product" is not selected.

Everything else is optional, including but not limited to product descriptions or product images. Those are not relevant to simply creating the VIP Membership.

When you're ready click Save.

Configuring Your VIP Product in Sticky Checkout

Now that the the VIP Membership product has been created in Shopify, we'll want to sync and configure the product it in Sticky Checkout.

Navigating back to Sticky Checkout > Products.

Following click Sync Product. We'll run a query to identify any new products or products that have been altered since we queried last. Depending on the volume of changes, this could take some time.

By default the product will be configured as a One Time Purchase. Since the VIP Membership is exclusively a membership and something that customers will be billed monthly for, we'll change this to Monthly.

From the right-nav menu, click Billing Model > Monthly (or whatever billing model you'd like).

After specifying the Billing Model, we will then be presented with a new Trial toggle, enable it. Then we'll specify what is received at the end of the trial duration.

We want the enrollment to be the VIP Membership and the customer to then be billed every month for VIP Membership.

Following click Save. Next we'll configure your order bumps to push the VIP Membership product to your Checkout Page for Shopify.

Configuring Order Bumps

Given the nature of the product, this is most commonly a order bump item. Something that is purchased or added alongside the first purchase and not an upsell.

This article will just cover how to configure the VIP Membership as a free enrollment order bump.

To begin, navigate to Funnels > Your Funnel > Checkout > Page Settings.

From here, a new nav-menu will appear on the right-side of your screen. We'll begin by enabling Add Order Bump.

Then, specify the product being promoted in the Order Bump. After choosing the product, we'll specify the price and quantity. In our example, we want this to be a $0.00 enrollment for the VIP Membership and then after the trial period, bill the customer for the full price.

Each adjustment you make will auto-save the funnel in the background. Once all changes have been made, simply click in an open area off to the left side of your screen.

We're almost done! You may be asking yourself, Sticky Person, how do you configure the trial length?! Let's tackle that next.

Updating Your Offer in Sticky.io

While on your main Sticky.io account, let's navigate to Products > Offers.

While on the offers page, look for "Primary Offer". In most cases, you'll just have one of these offers. But if you happen to have multiple funnels, campaigns and Shopify Stores you will see duplicates of this.

The exact offer for this funnel can be nailed down by going to the campaign this funnel is associated with and looking at the Offer Configuration.

Once you've opened your offer, we'll enable Add Trial > Trial Duration X Days > Products > Allow as trial.

And... we're done! Ideally you'd want to test at this stage just to make sure everything was configured correctly. That's what we'll quickly discuss next.

Review & Testing

To test, we'll simply navigate back to your Shopify Store. Add a product in the cart and navigate to checkout as if we're an actual customer.

We'll see the checkbox for "Yes, I would like to receive this exclusive offer!". When enrolling the Sub Total remains the same which lets us know the trial is not charging for the full price of the VIP Membership.

Continue with the checkout process and place an order.

Once you've placed your order, navigate to your main Sticky.io account and go to Customers > Orders.

The orders page sorts newest to oldest so your test order should be at the very top as illustrated below. Click the Order ID.

While on the test order, we'll see two line items. One accounts for the straight sale item we purchased and the second is the trial based VIP Membership that will recur in 14-days for $19.99 monthly.
