Without further ado, let's begin!
In a hurry? Watch our Product Marketing Manager guide you through the process of configuring merchant and consumer curated bundles in 4:28. Inversely, review our step-by-step article below.
Introduction to Bundle Offers
The sticky.io Subscriptions app enables the configuration of two distinct kinds of bundle offers.
Merchant-curated bundles are pre-set collections of products that consumers cannot swap individual products in and out of.
Consumer-curated bundles are product sets built by the consumer before checkout. Consumers can choose which products are included in their box from the collections that are defined by you as the merchant.
Both of these bundle options are compatible with subscription offers, opening the door for you to extend your customer lifetime value (CLTV) and give your customers convenient, ongoing access to the products they love.
Activating the Bundle Options Block On Your Product Display Pages
Before we build our first bundle, we will need to activate Bundle Options on our product display pages. Starting from the home page of your Shopify storefront, locate the Sales channels menu section and click into Online Store.
You'll land on the Themes tab of the Online Store menu. Here, you'll see information about your current theme and online store speed.
Within the Current theme section of the view, click Customize.
Here, you'll be able to make and preview customizations to your Shopify storefront. Looking to the left-hand side of the screen, click into Theme settings.
The Theme settings menu will open on the right-hand side of your screen.
Click into App embeds. Lastly, ensure the Bundle Options toggle is enabled.
And you're done! Click Save to preserve your selections.
Configuring Merchant-Curated Bundle Offers
The first step in configuring a merchant-curated bundle is configuring a foundational product for the bundle. This product will be configured like any other product in your catalog but will be where the bundle name, imagery and price are pulled from. For more information on how to add or update a product to your Shopify product catalog, please visit the Shopify Help Center.
Next, navigate to the Bundles tab of the sticky.io Subscriptions app.
Here, you'll see information about all of your configured bundles.
Select Create Bundle to get started. Then, select the foundational product that you would like to use for your bundle. Once satisfied with your selection, click Next.
Choose the bundle type. For this configuration, we'll choose the merchant-curated bundle option (labeled "Consumers can't change the products inside the bundle").
Next, specify whether or not you intend to include the same products and quantity in each delivery.
If selecting Yes, product inventory for the kit or bundle AND all of its individual components will be tracked in Shopify. You will be prompted to specify which products in your catalog should be included in this bundle.
Please note that individual variants can be specified for inclusion in the bundle, but all selected products and variants will be included in the bundle. Consumers will not have the option to choose between variants.
In the above example, the 12 pack and 48 pack of our water would be delivered as a part of this bundle.
If selecting No, product inventory for the kit or bundle will be tracked in Shopify, but not for its individual components. This is perfect for "box of the month" applications where inventory is most commonly tracked at the pre-assembled box-level and not at the individual component level.
And that's it! Click Save bundle to preserve your selections.
From the consumer's perspective, they will be able to purchase variants of your prebuilt bundles if those are configured at the product level. Please note that this option is not available when tracking the inventory of individual box or bundle components.
In the example below, consumers could select three different variations of our #SelfCare Beauty Box - one with cleansing lotion, one with cleansing oil and one with sunscreen. These product variations would need to be controlled at the fulfillment level.
Configuring Consumer-Curated Bundle Offers
The first step in configuring a consumer-curated bundle is configuring a foundational product for the bundle. This product will be configured like any other product in your catalog, but will be where the bundle name, imagery and price are pulled from. For more information on how to add or update a product to your Shopify product catalog, please visit the Shopify Help Center.
Next, navigate to the Bundles tab of the sticky.io Subscriptions app and select Create Bundle to get started.
Next, specify what type of bundle you would like to configure. For this configuration, we will choose the Consumer-Curated Bundle option (labeled "Consumers can select from a list of products").
Specify the number of products that consumers can select to build this bundle. For example, to build a bundle where consumers can select three products from our collection of fifteen products, we would enter three into the Product limit per bundle field.
Next, specify the products that a consumer can select from to build their bundle.
As before, please note that individual variants can be selected for this configuration.
And that's it! Once satisfied with your selection, simply click Save bundle.
From the consumer's perspective, they will have the option to add individual products to their bundle until they reach the product limit. Products can be selected more than once for inclusion in the bundle.
The above example has been configured to allow consumers to select up to 5 products from the defined options. Consumers can then decide whether they want to purchase the bundle as a one-time purchase or as a subscription.
Repositioning the Bundle Options Block for Consumer-Curated Bundles
Once you have configured your first bundle, navigate to Sales channels > Online Store > Themes from the Home page of your Shopify admin.
Within the center panel of the screen, locate the Current theme section and click Customize.
Here, you'll be able to customize and preview changes to your Shopify storefront.
Navigate to the product display page for a configured bundle.
The Buy buttons block will contain the bundle product options.
Drag the Buy buttons block to your desired position on the page.
Once satisfied with the positioning of your block, click Save.
Congratulations! You're now an expert on configuring bundle offers with the sticky.io Subscriptions app for Shopify.
